About Rainbow Run 2023
The Rainbow Run/Walk in Yellowknife is an inclusive and colourful community event held at Somba K’e Park on August 12, 2023, featuring a 3 km or 5 km route designed for runners, walkers and roll participants. In its 2023 edition, the event formed part of the larger Yellowknife Pride Festival celebrations, creating a vibrant mix of athletic participation and community celebration. Participants were encouraged to “wear your rainbow gear and let’s sprinkle the city with all of the colours of the rainbow” — giving the race a joyful, expressive atmosphere. The event also served as the third of six installments in the 2023 YKMC/Rotary Fun Walk/Run Series. All proceeds went to the Northern Mosaic Network, supporting 2SLGBTQIPA+ youth and allies in the Northwest Territories — making the event not only fun but purpose-driven. The course welcomed participants of all levels, including wheelchairs, handcycles and strollers, embodying a spirit of accessibility and celebration.
